Mako was to design a product I wanted to put on the market/. The delivery date of the designs was 30 but then changed to 60 and to 90 days later!.
Kevin Mako (the owner) cashed my check, sent me some designs but not at all what I asked or paid for.. I'm not sure if his head designer quitting the company had anything to do with the unusable monstrosity I received but what a hot mess!
I emailed, called, sent pictures of what I wanted, excited to help in the designing process but kept on getting shut down by Kevin'. Who tried to make me change the direction of my own project?. The nerve! Maybe he knew he didn't have the capacity or enough experience to follow through|. Who knows?
Meanwhile, lie after lie, delays after delays, I grew impatient and with reason, frustrated|. Look, I had my own deadlines to respect and investors to convince to remain on board. I had to step up and confront Kevin with his fraudulent ways and that's when all-***-broke-loose. He called the cops stating I was harassing. Well, you're *** right I will chase after you if you stole my money!
After seeing how serious the situation was getting and him realizing he made a huge mistake, he offered to re-work my designs but with conditions. Excuse me?! You and I signed contracts stating clearly what I wanted, you got paid in full and now you have conditions? Nevermind!
I simply couldn't agree to going back to Mako, too many things had happened. Plus, I had already lost an investor and absolutely did not trust a word coming out of Kevin's mouth. Pure irony, one of his own employee gave me the name of the designing company I'm now working with!
So in order to keep it on a civilized level in spite of it all, I asked for a reimbursement but Kevin told me a Big Fat No! But then changed his mind and agreed to fully reimburse me but then went right back to the Big Fat No and to take him to court! Meaning, until we get in front of a judge, he will be enjoying my hard earned cash while I'll have to work three times harder to have a lawyer on payroll. How fair is it?
Until then, I'll keep telling my story to whoever wants to hear. It's my way of protecting future inventors with a dream! Don't allow yourself to be taken advantage of. Ever!
With love from a french lady! 12a02f8

| 2. Written by Tikarli on March 14, 2012 from montreal, quebec, CA Hey Amanda, I would have loved to recommend you an honest Design Firm, but the ones I know are only after your money. And trust me, I've done my research. I was so taken back by their greed, that I decided to simply hire Freelancers. They are less expansive but you must really know what you want, be on top of things & work with them side by side. PLEASE BEWARE of my number #1 Worse Design Firm - Spark Innovations in Toronto. The owner, Robert G. Dickie is a crook. So much so that I nicknamed him "Robert The Crooked D_ck Robber". Hahaha! Good luck Bella! |

Anyway, I would have loved to enlighten you but based on your bad writing, it's obvious your reading is worse. Hmmm, I guess we're not gonna be friends??? Hahaha! Ok, that was mean...SORRY!!! |
| 5. Written by Tony on February 26, 2012 from -, -, CA Oh boy .. thank God i just got to sign the NDA at mako a couple of weeks back, but did not go ahead with giving him my idea. I'll always be doing a research about companies on google before working on anything with them. This is a wake up call for me, i would have lost a couple of thousands right there from what i see. Now m screwed , since i dont know what company to go to, to have them work on my inventions.. *** man! |
| 6. Written by Jess on February 25, 2012 from savannah, georgia, US I worked as an intern with Kevin two years ago and I am absolutely ashamed of you for making up so many lies about Kevin just because you ran out of money. Kevin is an amazing person and he works rediculously hard, and it breaks my heart to see people like you trying to slander his business and his name. You even got oyur money back but still are on some insane vendetta against him when all he does is does everything he could for you. You've wrote dozens of messages all ranting and raving, making up all sorts of lies, I was literally furious when I read these things. If your product wasn't a good idea, don't blame the company that developed it. He delivered the designs to you, offered to make any adjustments you wanted, offered to re-do it all, so tell me, what exactly did he do wrong??? All of that after you didn't pay on time in the first place. And I know the design work is fine because I worked on multiple projects with his team, just take a look at the portfolio work on their site its great stuff. Instead of writing dozens of messages making up things about Kevin you could have spent that time trying to work on your product. |
| 7. Written by Tikarli on February 19, 2012 from kitchener, ontario, CA I just love when Kevin Mako of Toronto takes time out of getting into bar fights and blinding people or stealing money from his clients to attack me - over again. Why show me so much interest Kevy Kev? Why don't you focus on your other unhappy clients who posted on this site. It's funny how similar their stories and mine seem to be. Yes Kevin Mako, we are all in a Fellowship Of Liars - ganging up on you looking for Our Precious...Our Precious Money! Hahaha! Seriously, quit it buddy. You paid me back because you were unprofessional & the cops told you to do so. I'm a happy lady. It's the other good hard working people, on this site, you took money from, that can't seem to understand how you managed to get away with your dishonesty for so long. Karma is a B_tch Kevin. What goes around comes around. |

If any of you have done the same please let me know asap |
| 9. Written by Tikarli on November 19, 2011 from montreal, quebec, CA TheReporter wrote: "Usually scam companies hide in locked underground offices with PO Box addresses and unknown executives." Tikarli answers: Bernard Madoff's office use to be in plain view & still managed to ruse MILLIONS of dollars out of his clients. Regardless, it was nice of you to poke around Mako's office just to kill time. I'm sure the products you saw as well as the testimonies of their owners can be found somewhere, anywhere. To be honest, I don't have any negative opinions toward Mako nor Kevin anymore because they paid me back. Even if they are suing me for $25,000 in return. Hihihi! It is what it is. As for people running out of money in the middle of a project & back tracking with all kinds of excuses, it does unfortunately happen. My story is different though & having to switch to a more hands on Designing Company, cost me WAY MORE. My issue was never lack of money, it was all about the designs. Now TheReporter, how about meeting for tea with the plaintiffs & perhaps write about that? Just to be just - pun intended. |
| 10. Written by TheReporter on November 16, 2011 from fairfax, virginia, US I have to step in here as these negative comments are completely unsubstantiated, deceitful, and unfair to Kevin and the company. I walk by their Toronto office every day on my way to work and always see all these products hanging there, so about two week ago, I just stopped in after reading the two negative reviews about them online. I pretended to be a reporter at CBC who was 'investigating' the story (which actually makes sense because CBC is two blocks away). I had to wait 10 minutes for Kevin to get out of a meeting, but he agreed to meet with me. He's a younger guy (mid-30s I'd guess), but really intelligent and knows the product market inside and out. I toyed around with a golf product 10 years ago that flunked, so we spent the first 20 minutes going over the pitfalls and such of the development game. He showed me all sorts of stuff they are working on. Really awesome environment there, all these designers and stuff at desks around the room with products hanging everywhere. Then I came right out and told him I wanted to further understand why there were a couple bad reviews online, although I pretty much already knew that the posts were bogus. He gave me three responses: 1. He said that when the rare circumstance occurs that a person runs out of money or changes their mind about developing a product, the first person they try and snake their money back from is the developer - He said they make up a bunch of excuses and lies, then when you don't give their money back because you've done a whole bunch of work on their project and can't work for free, they then threaten to go online and write lies about you. Second, he said, is that of the hundreds of projects Mako has done, they've only had a few bad apples like this. He said that they probably have a quarter amount of negative reviews than any of competition (from what I've seen, that's definitely true). Third, he said that bogus online reviews are just part of a successful business, especially in this industry when you have to deal with all sorts of different people. He said that people read right through reviews like the one above and thus it really doesn't effect their business. Anyhow, I'm not an engineer so I can't say for sure if this company is great or not in terms of design skill (although their designs look as realistic as photographs!), but from what I've seen, there is no chance that it's a "scam" or other garbage these two complainers have made up. Of all the scams I've seen, this is certainly not one of them - Their office is right on ground level downtown Toronto welcoming people, Kevin is a well-known guy with a lot of awards and designations, and they've got their logo branded across loads of products. Usually scam companies hide in locked underground offices with PO Box addresses and unknown executives. So I fessed up at the end of the talk and told Kevin that I was just a curious on-looker, he laughed. I promised him though that I'd at least write up about the good stuff I saw and post on the couple bad reviews I saw online, so here it is. That's my Karma boost for the week! |
